"Seventy percent of archeology [medicine] is done in the library. Research. Reading. We cannot afford to take mythology at face value"
- Indiana Jones, 1981
Overview
KEG, or Kingsway Education Group, was founded in 2014 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (located on Kingsway avenue) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The premise was/is to review and consolidate new literature into a digestible, fun, and easy format that builds upon textbook principles. The target is emergency physicians, however, the themes are certainly applicable to many others in medicine and surgery. Few physicians enjoy diving into the boredom of medical literature, yet many want to be up to date with the latest and greatest. To date, KEG is a one-man show, but the "group" designation is intended to recruit other contributors to the program as it grows. If education can be entertaining, then the goal of edu-tainment has begun. If you learn something and have a laugh, then the quota has been met. Thanks for your interest.
About me
My name is Dennis Lefebvre. I am a full-time emergency department physician at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH). The RAH is a tertiary-level hospital located in downtown Edmonton. We see over 73,000 patients annually, including major trauma and pediatric patients. I am an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. I completed my undergraduate studies (BSc, 1998), graduate studies (PhD, 2003), and medical school (MD, 2007) at the University of British Columbia before relocating to the University of Alberta to complete my Emergency Medicine residency training (FRCPC, 2012). I am supported by my lovely wife, Megan, and my two kiddos, Miles and Margot.
"The greatest teacher, failure is." - Yoda, 2017
This movie was not only the worst Star Wars movie that I have ever seen, but it might be the worst movie that I have ever seen. That said, this solitary quote was the only redeeming moment. Yoda highlights that we learn most from our failures. These moments inspire review, reading, education, and self-fulfillment. They often serve as a negative connotation, but if viewed differently, can be some of our most reflective moments.
